My mom gave me a wonderful heirloom for Christmas.
She has treasured this sugar bowl and creamer for as long as I can remember. They originally belonged to my mother's father's parents, my great-grandparents.
She included their history. Click on the letter above, and you can read it, too.
The sugar bowl has beautiful lines.
Another view.
The marking on the bottom. OAEG ROYAL Austria.
One side of the creamer has the same pattern as the sugar bowl.
The other side of the creamer has a different picture.
The bottom of the creamer shows the original price paid for the pair...$2.50!, from Greer's Bazaar in Alexandria, Indiana.
Thanks, Mom, for my new treasure. I have it displayed where I can see it all day, but keep it safe. It is such a special gift that I am going to share it on several parties over the next few days.

How very beautiful! I enjoyed the letter too - my maternal grandma was a Ramsey from Georgia. I know you treasure these pieces very much. Happy New Year.
Those are the best gifts! That is wonderful your mother gave you the history of it. I know my Mom and Grandmother told me so much about the things they gave me. I still have all their hand written notes.
What wonderful treasures!
Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Happy New Year, Carol!
Oh Carol, what treasures these are! They are not only gorgeous, but knowing that your grandparents purchased and used them makes them so much more special. How wonderful that your mother wrote a history for you. I wish I knew more about some of my inherited pieces. (So interesting that your grandfather was an orphan and became a cabin boy. Life was so much different back then. The struggles that were faced by our ancestors amaze me. This was such a wonderful Christmas gift, and I'm so glad you shared them for Favorite Things. Wishing you a wonderful 2011. laurie
Forgot to tell you that I also love the cozy look of the fireplace in your header. laurie
